Statement on the U.S. Justice Department’s Recent Lawsuit Against Massachusetts

On Monday, the U.S. Department of Justice sued Massachusetts to prevent non-U.S. citizen students from accessing in-state tuition and financial aid to attend our public colleges and universities.

This is just the latest action by the Administration meant to harm students, families, institutions, and communities across the Commonwealth. Massachusetts is stronger because it supports our non-citizen residents in pursuing a higher education. When more residents can afford college, we all benefit from their talent, leadership, workforce participation, and civic contributions. We stand with those students that would be affected by this lawsuit and urge the Healey Administration to fight for and continue to protect the rights of all Massachusetts residents.
